about

this song practically wrote itself in large part. i was feeling bad one day just about life - and went out in the garage and played banjo and sang out my thoughts til it felt better, and it happened that the words just pretty naturally came out. it started "do you know how hard life can be when you can't pay all the bills" little everyday concerns...
then the very next line that popped in my head was about how my mom had cancer and it was a financial strain... there were a lot more verses that i cut out so it would be more effective at communicating the main thoughts and feelings i was having that day and not get too scattered.

it covers a lot of ground but the one thing it started to center around that i want people to leave with is that sinking feeling you get when you're in a relationship with someone and you know it isn't right, but you hold on because before them, you were so depressed you couldn't even move and they make you feel better. but there's a hope too and you know you have gained something from that relationship...

you know it isn't love but it's So Close to love that you can see the possibility again that maybe someday you Will find it - this wrong for you relationship somehow restored your belief that love does exist...

you know that someday you won't be with them and you may lose hope again that love exists, but that you can look back and remember seeing it from where you are, and that it will help you go on.

you know it's wrong but you can't bring yourself to end it - you know they will end it anyway, so it will all work out. but you're going to hold on for just a little bit longer before it comes apart.

lyrics

NO 2 WAYS
Do you know how hard life can be
When you can’t pay all the bills
Then your mom gets sick with cancer
But you can’t pay for the pills
She has to take every day
For the next year or two Or the rest of her life
The doctors say
That there aint
no two ways about it
Better run and pray
there aint no two ways about it
Better run and pray

Now every time you look around
and you think things can’t get worse
Rest assured that they can
Maybe they will cause happenstance
Is a matter o chance Or divine will
Times they are a’changin’
You’re standin’ still
The times they are a’changin’
You’re standin’ still

I can’t make up, Make up my mind
Wish you’d leave
cause I Can’t say goodbye
And I know we aint gonna last

Well I been so many places
That I don’t know
where im comin’ from
Took so many chances
That I spat back out
like chewing gum
Thoughts turn right into actions
Look what you done
And if actions turn into habits
What do we become?

I can’t make up, Make up my mind
Wish you’d leave
cause I Can’t say goodbye
And I know we aint gonna last
And someday I’ll be lookin’ back
When I lose hope that love is real
I’ll remember seein’ it From here

Well I been so lonely I can’t talk
And I been so sad
I couldn’t even walk
But I can’t complain much about it
So have we all
I can’t complain much about it
So have we all

I can’t make up, Make up my mind
Wish you’d leave
cause I Can’t say goodbye
And I know we aint gonna last
And someday I’ll be lookin’ back
When I lose hope that love is real
I’ll remember seein’ it From here

Ever since I met you
I feel better somehow
I don’t know where it came from
but I don’t want it gone
And there ain’t no two ways about it
I know it’s wrong
